We know that keeping your diary safe is an utmost vital task, and in order to provide maximum protection to your journal and diary, Diary is built with a robust backup and restore feature to help you safekeep your precious memories. To access the diary backup and restore function, you may click at the Create New dropdown button on the login window, as shown in the screen below:

If you click at the Backup menu, you will be brought to the next window which presents you with the backup options. Choose from the Diary dropdown combo box or click at the Browse… button to look for the diary database that you want to perform the backup, and a default Backup File name will be assigned. If you want the diary backup file to be stored in other location, or if you want to rename the diary backup file, you may click at the Change… button.

If you want Diary to compact the database during the backup process, which will in turn try to compress the diary database to make it smaller whenever possible, you may place a check at the Compact diary option.

When you are happy with the options, click at the Backup button to start the diary backup. When it’s done, you will see a window showing some details of the backup result, together with any change in the size of the diary database after compacting it.

restore an existing diary database

Similarly, when you click at the Restore menu, you will be brought to the next window which presents you with the restore options. Choose from the Backup File dropdown combo box or click at the Browse… button to look for the diary backup that you want to restore. If you want the diary backup file to be restored in other location, you may click at the Change… button. 

When you are happy with the options, click at the Restore button to start the diary restoration. When it’s done, you will see a window showing the restored diary database path, together with an option to let you sign in the restored diary when you click at the Finish button.
